Celebrating Pagan babies

A discussion about "Pagan babies" came up today on one of the Pagan e-lists I regularly read. It made me think of the time, two years ago, when I taught a workshop at a Pagan festival in Minnesota. We had Pagan babies everywhere.

When I said goodbye to everyone at the Sacred Harvest Festival, I said that the community's golden treasure can be found in its happy, much loved children.  I've never before been at  Pagan event with so many kids in attendance, but I suppose that's a function of Bay Area demographics and our incredibly high housing costs that are impossible for most young families.

I'm posting a few photos of some of  little ones having the times of their young lives at the Pagan equivalent of "church camp." This is Freya, whose purple cast contrasted festively with her golden dress-up clothing.

And here are some of the other little ones who stole my heart away.

I grew up in a religious tradition in which we children were encouraged to raise $5 at a time so that "Pagan babies" could be baptized. It's ironic--and interesting--that I am now part of a religious community that cherishes our Pagan kids.
